New Homes Available in Medina, MN

Located primarily between Highways 55 and 12 on the western side of the Twin Cities metro area, it doesn’t take much more than a glance at a map to realize Medina is probably a place where the natural environment is beautiful – and important. The city is located just north of the sprawling Lake Minnetonka, and includes within it the vast majority of the 2,700-acre Baker Park Reserve and its wide array of recreational opportunities, among them camping, fishing, golfing and hiking. The park, which is in the southwestern part of Medina, is situated along the shores of Lake Independence.

Medina is about 27 square miles in size and has a low population density. More than half of the city is agricultural or undeveloped land. Its population doubled between 1970 and 2010, and in 2014 the number of people who called it home was 5,831. By 2040, it’s expected that 8,400 people will live in the city. While the city permitted more homes in the early 2000s than the mid-2000s, permits for single-family detached homes have been especially notable in 2012, 2013 and 2014, when 68, 144, and 83 permits were given out, respectively. Among the projects under way in the city is the sixth addition of Lennar’s Enclave at Brockton development, and another that would be known as the Deer Hill Preserve subdivision.

The land on which the city now sits once was part of a large hardwood forest, and its original settlers arrived there in 1855. It became an official city in 1974, and city officials since then have been careful to preserve its rural character, even as they add modern amenities. Medina is perhaps best known for the Medina Entertainment Center, a large facility that features musical performers, bowling lanes, a restaurant and space for special events. Medina also features a charming and historic downtown area called Uptown Hamel. Located off Highway 55 in the city’s northeastern section, Uptown Hamel is at once a celebration of the past and a thriving business area. The downtown includes retail and specialty shops, as well as office space and community gathering areas.
